Signed a two-year, $38 million contract with Atlanta in January of 2024. Contract includes $18 million team option for 2026. ... Sale didn't factor into the decision against the Mariners on Friday, allowing one run on four hits while striking out nine over 6.2 innings.
The veteran left-hander was traded from Boston to Atlanta last winter and turned back the clock in 2024 with a 2.38 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 225:39 K:BB over 177.2 innings, which along with an 18-3 record should net him his first Cy Young Award. Sale's 29 starts were the most he's made in a season since starting 32 games during his first year with the Red Sox in 2017, and it was a remarkable turnaround in his age-35 campaign after pitching in just 31 games across the previous three seasons. The big question at this point is whether Sale can sustain that resurgence, both in terms of effectiveness and availability. The stuff hasn't faded too much over the years, and he averaged 94.8 mph on his fastball last season, but there's always some risk with older pitchers, and he'll turn 36 years old in late March. The bigger immediate potential issue is availability, since one mostly healthy season doesn't eliminate the health concerns, especially at this point in his career. Still, Sale is a future Hall of Famer coming off arguably the best season of his career, and he'll certainly be worth the risk in 2025 if he's able to stay healthy again.Signed a two-year, $38 million contract with Atlanta in January of 2024. Sale needed just 78 pitches to log a quality start in his first outing in over two months, with a solo homer in the third inning being his only mistake. PHILADELPHIA — It was here at Citizens Bank Park on March 31, 2024, when the Braves and their fans saw a prime example of why many of Chris Sale’s teammates with the Chicago White Sox and Boston Red Sox called him the best teammate they ever had.
This was Sale’s debut with the Braves, the third game of the 2024 season, and Atlanta had a 3-2 lead against the Philadelphia Phillies with a runner on first base and one out in the sixth inning. That’s when Sale, who had thrown 83 pitches, was replaced by Joe Jiménez to face Nick Castellanos. Then, instead of stalking to the dugout with a look of disdain or muttering something into his glove, Sale stepped in front of each of the Braves’ infielders, who were at the mound for the pitching change, and told them how pleased he was to be with them, and urged them to get it done, to finish the win. They didn’t win that day; the Phillies came back to win 5-4 and avert a series sweep by the Braves. But Sale, who already had impressed throughout spring training with his attitude and work habits, further established himself as a guy every Brave knew they could count on.The Braves (61-74) remain ninth in the National League wild-card standings after a 2-1 loss Friday to the Phillies. Bryce Elder pitched seven innings of three-hit, one-run ball in his second strong start in a row, and Atlanta had 12 hits to the Phillies’ six. But the Braves were 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position. Now, they’ll give the ball to Sale and hope to salvage a split of the four-game series by winning twice this weekend.
There can be major tax implications for both the buyer and seller based on the structure of a sale of a C corporation. Learn more.
More than 90 percent of acquisitions of C corporations are structured as asset sales. While stock sales occur between the stockholder (business owner) and the buyer, asset sales occur between the company itself and the buyer. The differences in tax implications for the type of sale for each party could be substantial. The structure of the type of sale is often negotiated between the two parties when determining a sales price, as they should, hopefully, each be factoring into the equation the tax advantages and disadvantages of each type of sale. Read on for considerations for each type of sale involving a C corporation. While it may sound like a simple difference (i.e., a sale of stock is a stock sale, a sale of assets is an asset sale), it is important for both buyers and sellers of any type of business entity (not only C corporations) to understand that when they hear the term “asset sale,” it is not necessarily limited to a transaction with a “pure” sale of company assets. For instance, there is the option for a transaction to be consummated as a stock sale for legal purposes, but with an election that can be made to be treated as an asset sale for federal tax purposes (subject to certain criteria).

After a scoreless first inning with two strikeouts for Sale, it looked like the Braves were going to put up a crooked number immediately, loading the bases with no one out after a double, walk and single to start the bottom of the first.
Of course, the way Chris Sale looked, a one run lead probably felt like a lot more for Seattle. After the scoreless first, Sale set down the side in order in the second, and ran into his only real trouble of the night in the third. After a 1-out double from Leo Rivas, Sale hit Randy Arozarena with a 2-strike pitch to put 2 runners on for the MLB home run leader Cal Raleigh.Sale finished with a final line of 6 2/3 innings pitched 9 strikeouts ,4 hits and 1 earned run. What’s the difference between a stock sale and an asset sale, and why would a buyer or seller prefer one over the other? We’ll discuss the differences and highlight the tax issues affecting both buyers and sellers involved in C corporation merger and acquisition transactions.Additionally, we’ll go over the varying outcomes between these sales when your business is taxed as an S corporation instead of a C corporation and how that could potentially result in significant tax savings. An asset sale is the purchase of the seller’s assets and liabilities, but the seller retains possession of the legal entity. An asset transaction is implied when pricing a company using an EBITDA multiple (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization). These deals assume the buyer acquires the business on a “cash-free, debt-free” basis, meaning the seller keeps its bank account and pays off its bank debt, and the buyer ends up acquiring only the operating assets of the business. When selling a privately held business, in almost all circumstances, buyers expect the transaction to be structured as a purchase of assets. A stock sale is the purchase of an owner’s shares of a corporation, thereby taking possession of the legal entity.
